Любисток имеет высоту до двух метров и толстое длинное корневище. Размещать его лучше по углам участка или в тени под плодовыми деревьями. Зелень начинают срезать со второго года вегетации — три-четыре раза за сезон. Корни выкапывают в октябре, промывают и сушат.
Любисток дает возможность очень рано получать витаминную зелень. Все его части имеют сильный аромат, острый пряный вкус, напоминающий сельдерей. Листья — отличная приправа к салатам, мясным и рыбным блюдам.
Особенно вкусен куриный бульон, заправленный свежей зеленью (в небольшом количестве). Листья используют и при засолке, мариновании овощей. А из свежих корней делают цукаты и варенье. Любисток хорошо сочетается с петрушкой, шнитт-луком, тимьяном и розмарином.
Настои и отвары из корней, листьев и семян применяют при заболеваниях нервной системы, сердца, желудочных коликах, водянке, подагре. Основное его действие — мочегонное. Любисток применяется в народной медицине при очень многих заболеваниях.
Есть, например, данные, что если утром натощак пожевать 3-5 г сушеного корня, то успокоятся нервы, улучшится самочувствие. Размножается любисток семенами и делением старого куста. Рассаживать его можно весной, летом и осенью.
Семена высевают рано весной на глубину 2-3 см. Всходы появляются через месяц и даже позднее. Расстояние между рядами — 70 см. На одном месте может расти десять и более лет. Из удобрений ему особенно нужны калий и микроэлементы.
Чтобы вырастить хорошие корни, надо вовремя удалять цветоносы. Если нужны корни, не срезайте много зелени. Хранят в подвале, обрезав зелень и мелкие корешки и пересыпав песком. Сушить можно и зелень, и корневища.
