Семейство Вересковые (иногда клюкву относят и к семейству Брусничные)

Всего известно 4 вида клюквы, которые в дикой природе обитают в холодном и умеренном поясах Евразии и Северной Америки, из них на территории бывшего СССР произрастает 2 вида, среди которых наиболее распространен вид клюква обыкновенная, или болотная. Именно этот вид клюквы частично введен у нас культуру и является очень ценным пищевым растением.

Кроме нее, к ягодным культурам относится американская клюква крупноплодная, которая в дикорастущем виде ни в Украине, ни в России не встречается, но в небольших количествах возделывается в любительских хозяйствах (особенно много ее насаждений в Белоруссии). В настоящее время селекционерами ведется работа по скрещиванию этих видов клюквы (в частности, некоторые сорта уже выведены на Костромской лесной опытной станции и находятся сейчас в стадии испытаний). Тем не менее первенство в окультуривании клюквы все же принадлежит американцам — как и в случае со многими другими лесными ягодами, у нас до недавнего времени больше полагались на ее природные запасы, и лишь немногие любители каждый на свой лад пытались (с разным успехом) перенести клюкву в сад. В настоящее время сортовую крупноплодную клюкву разводят едва ли не чаще клюквы болотной.

Биологические особенности
Клюква обыкновенная (болотная) — невысокий вечнозеленый кустарничек с длинными, стелющимися (лежачими) укореняющимися стеблями с приподнимающимися верхушками, склонный образовывать обширные колонии-куртины. Корни поверхностные, тонкие, находятся в симбиозе с грибками. Листья мелкие, овальные с тупо заостренным кончиком, кожистые, зеленые (ближе к осени приобретают красноватую окраску), снизу светлее, чем сверху. Покраснение листьев означает начало перехода к периоду покоя. Цветки мелкие, розовые. Цветет в зависимости от климатической зоны с конца мая (до июля). Ягоды мелкие (менее 1 см в диаметре, в целом же их размер зависит от места произрастания), округлые, ярко-красные. С куста не опадают — могут находиться под снегом всю зиму («подснежные» ягоды считаются самыми вкусными).

Клюква обыкновенная исключительно морозостойка. В дикой природе растет главным образом на сфагновых болотах, особенно на хорошо освещенных открытых местах. Очень влаголюбива. Лучший грунт для нее — верховой торф.

Из-за повышенной теплолюбие крупноплодная клюква плодоносит менее стабильно, чем обыкновенная, зато она намного урожайнее и засухоустойчивее, к тому же вместо болотистых почв она предпочитает песчаные (при той же кислотности).

Поливы
Хотя клюква очень влаголюбива, в первые месяцы вегетационного периода ее (особенно клюкву крупноплодную) надо поливать лишь в случае длительного отсутствия осадков: от избытка влажности в мае—июле снижается урожайность и ухудшается качество ягод. В целом же почва, где растет клюква, должна быть постоянно слегка влажной (но при этом для клюквы круп- пиилидной — ни в коем случае не сырой), полное ее высыхание недопустимо. В идеале клюкву надо подкармливать трижды за сезон (минимум дважды): в середине июня, в июле и при созревании плодов полным минеральным удобрением, причем при июньской и июльской подкормах должно быть больше азотного удобрения (в июле удобрений вносится в два раза меньше, чем в июне, именно эту подкормку можно пропустить), а в период плодоношения — больше фосфатного удобрения (азотного и калийного — поровну).

Как альтернативу укрыванию иногда практикуют и заливание гряд ледяной водой (вмораживание клюквы в лед), причем не только для крупноплодной клюквы, но и для обыкновенной, чтобы защитить ее от иссушающих ветров.

Особенности сбора и хранения урожая
Ягоды можно собирать в сентябре—октябре, в том числе недозрелыми (они дозревают при хранении), или ранней весной.
