Магония (Орегонский виноград)
Семейство Барбарисовые.

Род Магония включает в себя около 110 видов, произрастающих в тропической и субтропической зоне Азии и Северной и Центральной Америки. Магония со съедобными плодами, которую называют орегонским виноградом, родом из Северной Америки.
Эта культура относительно новая — в Европе ее начали выращивать только с середины XIX века, у нас эта магония до сих пор встречается очень редко и в целом малоизвестна, причем в ней обычно видят не плодовый, а чисто декоративный вид.

Биологические особенности
Магония — вечнозеленый кустарник, достигающий в благоприятных условиях 2 м высотой (в средней полосе России он ниже — всего 1—1,2 м) и имеющий глубокую корневую систему (она проникает на глубину более 2 м). Ветви сначала направлены вверх, но потом опускаются и стелются по земле. Листья крупные (до 20 см длиной), непарноперистые, кожистые, блестящие, с колючками; весной они коричневато-бронзовые, чуть позже их окраска становится ярко-зеленой, затем темно-зеленой, а осенью — красно-багровой. Цветет магония в мае—июне.

Соцветие — прямостоячая разветвленная кисть, расположенная на концах ветвей. Цветки некрупные, правильные (симметричной формы), обоеполые, желтые, обладают нежным ароматом. Опыляется насекомыми. Плоды созревают к августу—сентябрю. Плод магонии — округло- овальная ягода до 1 см длиной, очень похожая не некрупную виноградину, за что это растение и получило свое второе название. В созревшем состоянии эти ягоды имеют темно-синюю окраску с сизоватым налетом. Урожайность у магонии невысокая, из-за чего, возможно, она так и не вошла в число популярных плодовых культур.

Магония растет медленно. В дикой природе она обитает в нижнем лесном ярусе, под кронами деревьев, что обусловило ее теневыносливость. Несмотря на свое субтропическое происхождение, она относительно холодостойка и может выдерживать морозные зимы даже в условиях средней полосы России, поскольку там снег полностью укрывает стелющиеся ветви.

В бесснежные зимы ее приходится укрывать. В целом же это растение весьма нетребовательно к условиям произрастания и к уходу, не терпит эта культура только прямых солнечных лучей (от них на листьях появляются ожоги) и постоянных ветров. Влаголюбивость сочетается у нее с относительной засухоустойчивостью. Кроме того, магония хорошо переносит запыленность и загазованность, поэтому ее можно выращивать в условиях города.

Ценность культуры
Плоды магонии используют главным образом для приготовления варенья, джемов, соков и даже вина (в Америке их делают в промышленных масштабах). Однако из-за невысокой урожайности и того, что в регионах с коротким безморозным периодом плоды не вызревают, магония более ценится как декоративное растение — способность ее листьев менять окраску в течение сезона, их оригинальный вид и то, что они зимуют под снегом и появляются из-под него ранней весной «готовыми», делает магонию привлекательной почти круглый год.

Сорта
В настоящее время в прайсах растениеводческих фирм можно обнаружить всего два сорта магонии (оба — голландской селекции) — Apollo и Atropurpúrea.

Выбор места
Магония может расти на любой почве, в том числе и на тяжелой глинистой (если проложить на ней дренаж слоем до 25 см), нетребовательна она и к химическому составу и кислотности почвы. Ей необходимы только тенистое место и защита от ветра.

Способы размножения
Магонию можно размножать как семенным способом, так и вегетативно.

Семенное размножение
Ввиду того, что достать саженцы магонии, в отличие от семян, непросто, семенной способ у нас практикуется чаще остальных. Семена магонии можно высевать как осенью (но при условии, что их только что собрали), так и весной (если семена куплены в магазине). Для весеннего посева их подвергают стратификации в течение трех месяцев при температуре около 5 °С. В холодных регионах лучше использовать рассадный способ с постепенной закалкой сеянцев.

Вегетативное размножение
Магонию также можно размножать корневыми отпрысками и отводками (весной) или черенками.

Размножение отводками и корневыми отпрысками выраженных особенностей не имеет.

На черенки срезают молодые побеги с полностью сформированными и неповрежденными листьями. Верхний срез делается как можно ближе к почке, а нижний — на расстоянии 2,5—4 см от него. Если лист крупный, его надо укоротить наполовину. Применение фитогормонов существенно увеличивает вероятность успешного укоре-нения. Черенки укореняют в торфяном субстрате (обычно в контейнере), разместив их так, чтобы почка находилась на уровне земли. После посадки субстрат уплотняют и поливают. Желательна профилактическая обработка фунгицидами.

Посадка, размер посадочной ямы
При помещении саженцев или сеянцев на постоянное место между ними оставляют расстояние 1—2 м. Поскольку магония плохо переносит пересадку, ее переваливают вместе с комом земли. Если саженцы или сеянцы росли в контейнере, перед посадкой их необходимо подержать в емкости с водой, чтобы хорошо пропитать ею земляной ком. Корневая шейка при посадке должна находиться на уровне земли.

Обрезка, формирование куста
Магонию чаще всего обрезают в декоративных целях или для ограничения ее в росте. Обрезка производится в ап-реле с учетом наличия на побегах цветочных почек—об-резать надо те побеги, на которых цветочных почек нет, в противном случае цветения не будет. Если же оно не-обязательно, можно обрезать все побеги.

Поливы
Магония весьма влаголюбива, в случае отсутствия естественных атмосферных осадков ее желательно поливать 2 раза в месяц. Для одного куста требуется одно ведро воды.

Подкормки
Магонию желательно подкармливать дважды за сезон: ранней весной и перед началом цветения (в мае) полным минеральным удобрением.

Прочий уход
Несмотря на нетребовательность к почвам, магония не любит, когда они слишком уплотнены, поэтому по мере образования твердой корки на почве приствольный круг необходимо рыхлить, но на небольшую глубину (2—3 см).

Рыхление обычно совмещают с прополкой. На сухих почвах для уменьшения испарения влаги приствольный круг желательно мульчировать.

В регионах с морозными и/или малоснежными зимами куст магонии необходимо укрывать лапником или другими утепляющими материалами.

Особенности сбора и хранения урожая
Плоды собирают по мере созревания (обретения ими спелой темно-синей окраски).

Вредители и болезни
Чаще всего магония поражается ржавчиной и мучнистой росой. Вредителями почти не повреждается.
