Абрикос — растение южных широт, его родиной считается Тянь-Шань. Впервые это замечательное плодовое дерево начали культивировать еще за 2 тысячи лет до нашей эры. В Европе оно распространилось лишь начиная с XIX века.
Существует несколько видов абрикоса, из которых окультурены не все, да и плоды не у всех съедобны, однако в культуру «абрикос» вошло сразу несколько из них.

Набольшее распространение во всем мире получил абрикос обыкновенный. К этому виду относится большинство известных нам сортов. Любопытно, что полностью из дикой природы он не исчез, хотя между культурными и дикорастущими его разновидностями существует большая разница. В частности, это касается размера плодов — если у культурных сортов масса плода может достигать 165 г, то для абрикоса-дикороса 35 г — это едва ли не предел, поскольку наиболее распространеными являются экземпляры с плодами массой 8—12 г.

В Украине, кстати, нередко культивируют близкие по многим характеристикам к дикоросам непривитые абрикосы — жердели. Это мелкоплодные формы абрикоса, которые могут размножаться семенами. Жердели более зимостойки и засухоустойчивы и менее требовательны к почвам, чем привитые культурные формы и сорта, зато качество плодов у них посредственное (малая сочность, нередко — горчинка).

Кроме абрикоса обыкновенного, крупноплодные культурные формы имеет вид абрикос маньчжурский. В Китае и Японии есть своя отдельная плодовая культура — абрикос ансу, а в Китае же и Корее — абрикос муме, используемый в пищу скорее как овощ — в соленом и маринованном виде.

Иногда к абрикосам относят так называемый черный абрикос (гибрид абрикоса и алычи), но он заслуживает отдельного рассмотрения.

Биологические особенности
Абрикос — дерево до 6 м высотой (реже больше). При этом штамб у абрикоса обычно невысокий — от 40 до 100 см, а диаметр ствола зависит от возраста дерева. Без воздействия человека деревья абрикоса образовывают в молодом возрасте обратнопирамидальную крону, в зрелом — обычно округлую. Корневая система у абрикоса очень мощная, с выраженным стержневым корнем, однако в зависимости от почвенных условий основная масса корней может размещаться на разных уровнях почвы.

Абрикос плодоносит на однолетних побегах, среди которых различают побеги продолжения, плодовые и букетные веточки (шпорцы). На побегах продолжения образуется основной урожай дерева. Плодовые веточки небольшие, тонкие. Букетные веточки короткие — от 1 до 5 см длиной. Из одной генеративной почки абрикоса образовывается только один цветок (отличительная особенность вида).

Основной урожай плодов образуется на побегах продолжения. Цветки у абрикоса розовые или (реже) белые, довольно ароматные и обоеполые. Абрикос, в зависимости от сорта, может быть как самоопыляемым, так и самобесплодным, то есть неспособным завязывать плоды от опыления собственной пыльцой, а значит, требующим опылителя другого сорта. Большинство сортов абрикоса самоплодны.

Плод — костянка шаровидная или сплюснутая с боков, с крепкой косточкой и плотной мякотью.
Он быстро развивается: на 5—6-й год с одного дерева в среднем можно получить столько же плодов по весу, как с 10—12-летней яблони. Кстати, название «абрикос» происходит от латинского слова, переводящегося как «скороспелый».

Абрикос — типично южная культура, северная граница его промышленного культивирования проходит по линии Харьков — Ростов-на-Дону и оттуда—к среднеазиатским республикам, однако в частных садах абрикосы выращиваются (хоть и в небольшом количестве) вплоть до южных границ Московской области. Единственным недостатком абрикоса как культуры можно признать его низкую морозостойкость, зато в регионах, подходящих абрикосу по климату, большого и сложного ухода эта культура не требует, поэтому его выращивание сосредоточено главным образом в южных областях СНГ, а в Украине — в ее южных районах. Зато он почти нетребователен ко многим другим факторам, в частности к качеству почвы.

При этом главным препятствием для культивирования абрикоса в холодных краях служит не столько сам зимний холод, сколько перепады весенних температур, убивающие распустившиеся цветки. Цветки повреждаются, а плодоношение отсутствует, если во время цветения температуры хотя бы кратковременно снижались до -4 °С. Абрикос превосходит многие культуры в скорости созревания плодов и раннего весеннего цветения, из-за чего урожаи его плодов не бывают стабильными даже на юге — слишком часто завязи гибнут от весенних заморозков.

Не случайно показателем зимостойкости сортов абрикоса служит в первую очередь длительность его зимнего периода покоя: чем позже дерево «проснется после спячки», тем меньше вероятность, что чередование заморозков и оттепелей погубит урожай. Продолжительность цветения у абрикосов неодинакова (в среднем оно продолжается 5—9 дней), поскольку зависит от сорта, вида, а также погодных условий.

Тем не менее избыток тепла тоже не идет абрикосу во благо — в особо жарких районах есть риск, что он получит солнечные ожоги коры. В таких случаях для защиты рекомендуется белить стволы.

Ценность культуры
Плоды абрикоса употребляются в свежем виде, идут на сушку, а также используются для консервирования: их перерабатывают на мармелад, пастилу, повидло, начинку для конфет и т.п. Также из них изготавливают соки, вина и ликеры (существует даже особая разновидность ликера — абрикотин). Для сушки плоды используются главным образом в Узбекистане и Таджикистане. Сушеные плоды без косточек, в виде половинок, называют курагой, а с косточкой — урюком (в Средней Азии слово «урюк» служит основным названием абрикоса).

Плоды абрикоса занимают одно из первых мест среди плодовых пород по пищевой и лечебной ценности. Есть доказательства, что они способствуют сохранению молодости и в целом долголетию и отличаются при этом замечательным вкусом. Наблюдение за питанием жителей индийской долины Хунза и одного из пакистанских племен, где средняя продолжительность жизни составляет 85—90 лет, показало, что у них среди пищевых продуктов главное место занимает абрикос. Нечто похожее отмечается и в других регионах, где абрикос в свежем или вяленом виде используется в пищу регулярно.

Плоды абрикоса содержат много витаминов (особенно провитамина А — каротина, количество которого сопоставимо с таковым в яичном белке и сливочном масле), пектины, углеводы, минеральные вещества (особенно калий) и некоторые другие полезные химические соединения. Плоды абрикоса стимулируют кроветворение и являются эффективным средством при лечении анемии: 100 г этих плодов оказывают на кроветворение тот же эффект, что и 250 г свежей печенки. Абрикос широко используется в лечебных диетах у больных сердечно-сосудистыми заболеваниями, одновременно с этим употребление в пищу его плодов препятствует всасыванию в кишечнике радиоактивного калия и цезия. Правда, при этом абрикос противопоказан больным диабетом.

Сорта
В Украине районировано десять сортов абрикоса: 5 отечественных народной селекции, 2 новых селекционных, 2 иностранных и 1 сорт неизвестного происхождения. По РФ культивируют 43 сорта, но известно, что в любительских садах их выращивается намного больше, чем признано официально. Помимо традиционных садовых абрикосов (вид абрикос обыкновенный), часть из занесенных в Госреестр абрикосов относятся к другим видам этого же семейства — абрикос маньчжурский и абрикос сибирский.

Сорта, районированные в Украине
Ананасный цюрупинский. Сорт районирован в Украине в Винницкой, Запорожской, Крымской, Николаевской, Хмельницкой областях. Отобран К. Ф. Костиной в насаждениях абрикоса в Цюрупинском районе Херсонской области. Деревья среднерослые, нетребовательны к условиям выращивания, довольно морозо- и засухоустойчивые, скороплодные и высокоурожайные. Плоды средних размеров (40 г), округлые, светло-желтые, без румянца. Мякоть светло-оранжевая, средней плотности, кисловато-сладкая. Косточка небольшая, свободная. Ядро сладкое. Созревают плоды в середине или во второй половине июля одновременно. Пригодны для стола и разных видов техпереработки.

Венгерский лучший. Венгерский сорт, по всем признакам очень близок к Краснощекому. Распространен в Закарпатской области, где он и районирован. Деревья большие, с широкой раскидистой кроной, нетребовательны к условиям выращивания, начинают плодоносить на 3—4-й год, родят ежегодно и щедро. Плоды средней величины и крупные (45—80 г), тупо-сердцевидные, оранжево-желтые с краевым румянцем. Мякоть светло-оранжево-желтая, приятного вкуса. Косточка легко отделяется от мякоти. Ядро сладкое. Созревают плоды в конце июля, неравномерно, на дереве держатся непрочно. Годны для потребления в свежем виде, а также для и консервирования (компоты, варенье, джем, повидло) и для сушки.

Консервный поздний. Сорт районирован в Украине в Херсонской области; за пределами страны — в России, Чечне. Плоды годны для потребления в свежем виде и для консервирования. Компоты, приготовленные из Консервного позднего, отличаются очень привлека-тельным внешним видом и хорошим вкусом. Выведен этот сорт в Никитском ботаническом саду. Деревья средних размеров, для условий юга Украины довольно зимостойкие. Плодоносить начинают на 4—5-й год и дают высокие урожаи. Плоды крупные (средний вес 50 г, максимальный 70 г), округло-овальные, желто-оранжевые с красивым карминовым румянцем на освещенной стороне. Мякоть светло-оранжевая, плотная, кисловато-сладкая, хорошего вкуса. Косточка небольшая, легко отделяется от мякоти. Ядро сладкое. Созревают плоды в конце июля — начале августа.

Никитский. Сорт районирован в Украине в Винницкой, Днепропетровской, Запорожской, Ивано-Франковской, Крымской, Николаевской, Одесской, Тернопольской, Херсонской, Хмельницкой и Черновицкой областях. Среднеспелый. Выведен в Никитском ботаническом саду из старой сортовой коллекции. Деревья сильнорослые, неприхотливы к условиям произрастания, зимостойки в южных и юго-западных областях Украины, но цветковые почки нередко повреждаются морозами, особенно в крайних южных районах, где они рано рас-пускаются. Скороплодны — плодоносить начинают на 3—4-й год, урожайность высокая и регулярная. Плоды крупные (50—60 г), широкоовальные, оранжевые, с ярко- красным румянцем. Мякоть светло-оранжевая, средней плотности и сочности, ароматная, хорошего вкуса. Косточка легко отделяется от мякоти. Созревают плоды не одновременно, на протяжении первой половины июля. Пригодны для стола и консервирования.

Юбилейный. Сорт районирован в Украине в Крымской области. Выведен К. Ф. Костиной из сортовой коллекции в Никитском ботаническом саду. Деревья сильнорослые, в условиях Крыма довольно зимостойкие, но почки и цветки часто повреждаются весенними заморозками. Плодоносить начинают на 4—5-й год и в благоприятные для цветения годы родят очень хорошо. Плоды довольно крупные (45—55 г), широкояйцевидные, оранжево-желтые с размытым розовым румянцем. Мякоть светло-оранжевая, сочная, ароматная, хорошего вкуса. Созревают плоды во второй декаде июля, прочно держатся на дереве. Пригодны для стола и консервирования. В дождливые годы деревья сильно поражаются клястероспориозом.

Сорта, выращиваемые в России
Наибольшей зимостойкостью, а значит, и возможностью выращивать в рискованных районах отличаются сорта Лучший мичуринский, Товарищ, Алеша, Лель, Царский (есть еще несколько сортов), однако по совокупности качеств (от вкуса плодов и урожайности до зимостойкости) наибольшее распространение получили некоторые другие, описанные ниже сорта.

Арзами. Распространен в Краснодарском крае. Дерево рослое, крона компактная. Плоды созревают в конце июня — начале июля. Плоды среднего размера (40 г), светло-кремовые с румянцем, кисловатые, вкус оценивается как хороший. Косточка от мякоти не отделяется. Семя сладкое. Урожайность при благоприятных условиях годы — 100 кг с дерева и более. В Краснодарском крае дает 3—4 урожая за десятилетие.

Краснощекий. Районирован для Краснодарского края, где занимает около 70 % площади всех насаждений абрикоса. Дерево рослое, крона раскидистая. Плоды созревают в 1—2-й декаде июля. Плоды среднего или крупного размера (50—60 г), золотисто-оранжевые с румянцем, бархатистые, ароматные, сладко-кислые, вкус оценивается как хороший. Косточка легко отделяется от мякоти. Плодоносит часто. В случае отсутствия весенних заморозков урожайность очень высокая. Сорт отличается повышенной засухоустойчивостью.

Россиянин. Дерево рослое. Урожай дает в середине июля. Плоды крупные (60 г), округлые, оранжевые, вкус оценивается как гармоничный, плоды чаще используются для потребления в свежем виде, чем для переработки. Косточка от мякоти отделяется легко. Зимостойкость достаточная.

Солнечный. Урожай дает во второй декаде июля. Плоды средние (40—50 г), желтые с легким румянцем, вкус оценивается как хороший. Отличается регулярным, более частым, чем у других выращиваемых в европейской части РФ сортов, плодоношением. Зимостойкость до-статочная.

Выбор места
Для выращивания абрикоса пригодны все достаточно плодородные почвы, кроме выраженно щелочных и сильно кислых, но на глинистых грунтах он растет хуже, чем на легких. Абрикос в большинстве регионов желательно размещать ближе к постройкам, чтобы он получал от них дополнительное тепло.

Размножение
Размножать абрикос можно как с помощью семян, так и прививкой. При семенном размножении абрикос в основном сохраняет свои хозяйственно-ценные признаки, но плоды обычно получаются более мелкими.

В среднем одному дереву необходима площадь 4 х 5 м. Почва для посадки абрикоса подготавливается так же, как и для всех прочих плодовых деревьев.

Уход
Уход за взрослым абрикосом в подходящих для него климатических условиях минимален: ствол дерева надо периодически белить, начиная со второго года после посадки абрикос желательно подкармливать, прочие агротехнические мероприятия проводятся по мере необходимости. Абрикос на редкость засухоустойчив, поливать его надо лишь в случае длительной засухи.

Если у абрикоса не закладываются сильные однолетние приросты, ветви оголяются и урожайность резко снижается. Регулирующая обрезка направлена на то, чтобы этого не допустить — нужно стимулировать рост новых побегов взамен отплодоносивших. Другой опасностью является перегрузка ветвей урожаем с последующим истощением дерева.
В северных районах культивирования абрикоса его кроне обычно придают разреженно-ярусную форму, в южных — чашевидную или полуплоскую.

Остальные обрезки проводятся по фазам жизненного цикла и по мере необходимости.

Вредители и болезни
Особую опасность из болезней для абрикоса представляют цитоспороз и вертициллез.
В многосортных насаждениях урожайность всегда выше, чем в односортных.
