Вишня войлочная, с одной стороны, распространена как дикорос в Китае и во многих районах Сибири и Дальнего Востока, а с другой — в любительских хозяйствах ее культивируют уже не одно столетие (в том числе и в регионах, расположенных далеко от мест ее естественного произрастания, например в средней полосе России). В настоящее время она уже включена в Госре- естр РФ в качестве отдельной культуры, причем разница между дикорастущими и культурными экземплярами на сегодня очень невелика.

Вместе с вишней песчаной она входит в особую группу (некоторые специалисты даже считают ее отдельным подродом рода Вишня) — «микровишни», поскольку многие ее биологические особенности существенно отличаются от типичных для прочих известных нам вишен.

Биологические особенности
Вишня войлочная — кустарник, достигающий 2—3 м высотой. Свое название вид получил за то, что листья этой вишни с нижней стороны покрыты сильным войлочным опушением, внешне они довольно сильно напоминают листья вяза, в первую очередь свой фактурой — морщинистостью. Бутоны у нее ярко-розовые, что делает эту вишню во время их появления очень декоративной; раскрывшиеся цветки — розовато-белые, на одном побеге их обычно 1—2 штуки.

Плоды шарлахово-красные, слегка прозрачные, покрыты легком сероватым опушением, редеющим по мере созревания, кисло-сладкие без горчины, менее сочные, чем у вишни обыкновенной, но более сочные, чем у большинства прочих культурных видов вишни.

Вишня войлочная — очень скороплодная (плодоносить она начинает на 2—3-й год после посадки) и зимостойкая культура. Она выдерживает зимние морозы до -40 °С, а кратковременно — и более низкие температуры. Бели пригнуть ее к земле и закрыть снегом, даже -45 °С для нее — не предел (в областях с еще более холодными зимами вишню войлочную можно выращивать в стелющейся форме). Правда, при этом в зимний период войлочная вишня нередко повреждается по другой причине — в случае оттепелей корневая шейка у нее начинает выпревать (страдает кора в нижней части стволиков), от чего растение может погибнуть.

Единственный способ этого избежать — искусственно снизить вероятность переувлажнения, разместив куст по возможности на возвышении или холмике. Если это невозможно сделать, проделайте дренаж (канавку) для стока воды и внесите в верхний корнеобитаемый слой почвы песок и золу, также облегчающие отток излишней влаги. В целом же из-за этого обстоятельства наиболее пригодны для ее разведения или особо холодные регионы, где зимние оттепели — большая редкость, или, наоборот, южные.

Для своего относительно небольшого размера вишня войлочная весьма урожайна — один взрослый куст образовывает около 10 кг плодов (от 5 до 14 кг). Однако при этом она очень рано цветет (в средней полосе России — в середине мая), из-за чего цветочные почки нередко повреждаются весенними заморозками или успевают отцвести, прежде чем их опылят насекомые (во многих регионах в это время пчелы еще не летают), что приводит к отсутствию урожая.

Войлочная вишня самоплодна, специально сажать рядом сорта-опылители не требуется, хотя она может опыляться пыльцой других растений, причем не только вишен этого же вида, но и менее родственных косточковых культур, таких как слива, алыча, терн и даже абрикос и персик. Более того — они легко могут скрещиваться друг с другом, образовывая любопытные гибриды. При семенном размножении выращенные из косточек этой вишни сеянцы сохраняют родительские свойства.

Плоды войлочной вишни мелкие (самые крупные массой 4 г), они созревают в среднем на неделю раньше, чем у вишни обыкновенной. К сожалению, транспортируются они очень плохо и практически не хранятся — именно по этой причине войлочную вишню длительное время считали полностью непригодной к промышленному разведению (в любительских садах ее плоды или едят свежими прямо с веток, или немедленно перерабатывают на варенье, соки и т.п.).

Вишня войлочная живет недолго, растения могут начать гибнуть уже в возрасте 8 лет. Зато она устойчива к главному врагу большинства других вишен — коккомикозу и почти не повреждается вредителями.

Ценность культуры
Вишня войлочная ценится прежде всего за редкую неприхотливость, ее можно успешно культивировать в регионах с суровым зимним климатом почти на любых почвах, непригодных для выращивания вишни обыкновенной, а также за скороплодность и раннее появление урожая.

Плоды на вкус немного пресноваты, они содержат 6—8 % сахаров, 0,7—1,0 % кислот и 21—23 мг витамина С на 100 г.
Войлочная вишня очень декоративна в течение всего вегетационного сезона: весной ее украшают бутоны и цветки, в период созревания плодов — сами плоды, а осенью — желто-оранжевые листья. Из нее можно делать красивые живые изгороди.
Благодаря засухоустойчивости на юге (в регионах, где маловероятно выпревание корневой шейки) из вишни войлочной получаются хорошие подвои для абрикоса и персика. Кроме того, она — неплохой медонос.

Сорта
В Госреестр РФ включено 14 сортов войлочной вишни, все они официально районированы только по Восточно- Сибирскому, Западно-Сибирскому и Дальневосточному регионам (хотя выращиваются, как уже упоминалось, не только в них).

Даманка. Плоды этого сорта считаются самыми вкусными. Куст среднерослый.

Натали. Самый крупноплодный сорт из негибридных. Куст высокорослый.

Океанская вировская. Самый зимостойкий сорт с очень ранним сроком созревания. Куст высокорослый.

Песчано-войлочная. Межвидовой гибрид между вишней войлочной и вишней песчаной, самый крупноплодный из сортов данного типа. Куст среднерослый.

Смуглянка восточная. Отличается низкорослостью куста.

Кроме них выращивают сорта Алиса, Аньдо, Восторг, Восточная, Детская, Красавица, Красная крупная, Лето, Огонек, Пионерка, Ранняя розовая, Сказка, Триана, Царевна и Юбилейная.

Выбор места
Для культивирования вишни войлочной пригодны любые почвы, кроме глинистых и переувлажненных; оптимальная кислотность грунта — 6,0—6,5, однако отклонения от данного показателя культура переносит нормально, но слишком кислые почвы надо известковать.

Войлочная вишня светолюбива, на участке желательно выделять под нее наиболее освещенные места, хотя небольшое затенение она тоже переносит (в этом случае урожай будет несколько меньшим). В холодных регионах важна защита от зимних ветров.

Размножение
Чаще всего вишню войлочную размножают семенами. Можно использовать как свежесобранные семена, так и (для посадки весной) хранившиеся осенью—зимой дома и стратифицированные перед посадкой в течение 50—60 дней. Семена высеваются в питомник (специально отведенное место) на глубину 1—1,5 см. На постоянное место высаживаются 3—4-летние кусты.

Посадочная яма должна быть заполнена смесью, обогащенной навозом и минеральными удобрениями. Важная особенность: заглубление корневой шейки для вишни войлочной недопустимо, она должна находиться на высоте около 3 см над уровнем почвы, иначе растение может погибнуть. После посадки куст надо хорошо полить (2 ведра воды на куст) и замульчировать приствольный круг перегноем или торфом.

Кроме этого, войлочную вишню можно размножать прививкой на сеянцы других косточковых, отводками и черенками. Черенки укореняют в смеси из торфа и песка после обработки гетероауксином (или аналогичным фитогормоном). Полученные таким образом растения на зиму в первый год после укоренения надо укрывать.

Размеры посадочной ямы и схема посадки
Размер посадочной ямы — 60 х 70 х 50 см, расстояние между растениями — 2,0—2,5 м.

Обрезка, формирование кроны
Целенаправленно крону войлочной вишне формируют редко, а потому четких единых схем в данном случае нет. Садовод может определять их произвольно в зависимости от своих потребностей (например, делают куст почти квадратным в живой изгороди или формируют горизонтальный кордон в области со слишком сильными зимними морозами). Обрезку она переносит очень хорошо.

Обязательными являются прищипывание побегов (для увеличения количества генеративных побегов), которое обычно проводят в августе, и оздоравливающая обрезка — весной удаляют все слабые и сухие ветки. В случае загущенности кроны ее надо проредить.

Для старых растений (от 7 лет) становится необходимой еще и омолаживающая обрезка.

Поливы
Вишня войлочная легче переносит засуху, чем пере-увлажнение, поливать ее надо лишь в случае длительного отсутствия естественных осадков.

Подкормки
В первые годы после посадки вишню войлочную по возможности надо подкармливать почаще, но небольшими порциями; взрослые растения удобряются дважды в год — весной и зимой под перекопку.

Прочий уход
Прочий уход включает в себя рыхление почвы (рыхлить почву надо на небольшую глубину), которое обязательно проводится весной и осенью, а также в случае образования на почве плотной корки, профилактику и борьбу с болезнями.

В регионах с очень сухим климатом летом иногда требуется опрыскивание (о том, что его желательно осуществить, просигнализируют поникшие листья). Проводить его можно только ранним утром или вечером, когда растение не находится под солнечными лучами.

В регионах со слишком суровыми зимами на зиму куст пригибают и укрывают.

В местности, где водится много мышей и других мышевидных грызунов, надо обмазывать стволик на зиму веществами, отпугивающими грызунов.

Уборка урожая
По мере созревания плодов. Плоды надо использовать сразу же.

Вредители и болезни
За исключением мышей, вредители войлочную вишню почти не повреждают. От болезней она также страдает редко, кроме монилиального ожога и клястероспориоза. При небольших повреждениях куст надо опрыскать весной 3 %-ным раствором бордоской жидкости или обработать фунгицидами (по инструкции).
