Цветки до 4 см в длину, неправильные, с крупным шлемом, фиолетовые, реже белые. Есть садовые двухцветные (фиолетово-белые) формы. Цветет с июля по сентябрь. Морозостоек, к почве нетребователен. Выносит затенение. Размножают семенами или клубнями весной или осенью, рассаживая клубни каждые 3 года. Внимание! Растение ядовито.
