Тенелюбивая горянка колхидская образует плотный покров из зимующих листьев высотой 30-35 см. Весной молодые отрастающие листья имеют светло-зеленую окраску, летом они темнеют. Цветки мелкие, ярко-желтые, собраны в рыхлую кисть.
Размножают орянку отрезками корневища. Делить и пересаживать растения желательно в августе — начале сентября. Этот вид в озеленении очень неприхотлив и надежен: к почве нетребователен и умеренно засухоустойчив.
Устойчив к засухе и горец родственный — вечнозеленое растение с удлиненными овальными листьями и приподнимающимися стеблями высотой 20-25 см. Мелкие бледно- розовые цветки собраны в плотные колосовидные соцветия длиной 6-10 см.
Цветет 2,5-3 месяца, начиная с мая. К концу цветения цветки становятся более яркими, розовато-красными. Горец не теряет декоративность и после цветения, когда его плоды и листья приобретают темно-красную окраску. Размножают обычно делением куста весной или осенью. Горец родственный растет на любой садовой земле, любит солнце, но выдерживает и легкую тень.
