Мелкие огненно-красные цветки собраны в головчатые соцветия. Семена высевают в марте в ящики с легкой садовой землей. При температуре 18-20° С всходы появляются через 6-8 дней.
После образования первой пары настоящих листьев сеянцы пикируют в другие ящики на расстоянии 4 см друг от друга, а в мае высаживают в открытый грунт. Такие сеянцы зацветают в первый же год в июле-августе, а на следующий год образуют уже 8-10 стеблей. Семена лихниса можно высеивать непосредственно в открытый грунт даже в мае, однако развитие таких сеянцев задерживается, и они обычно начинают цвести только в следующем году. Старые кусты лихниса делят в апреле-мае или августе.
Каждая деленка должна иметь остаток старого стебля с почками возобновления либо молодые побеги с корнями.
