Повышаем зимостойкость некоторых деревьев и кустарников
Известно, что морозоустойчивость одного и того же растения не постоянна, она изменяется в зависимости от его физиологического состояния и степени готовности к зимовке. Растения быстрее повреждаются морозом в период активного роста, когда их слабо одревесневшие побеги содержат много воды, но очень мало веществ, способствующих устойчивости клеток.

В зависимости от биологических особенностей растений необходимо создавать условия, повышающие их морозостойкость: рано весной обеспечивать азотом, летом поливать и мульчировать почву. Рост и вызревание корней растений заканчиваются намного позднее, чем наземных органов.

Чтобы продлить период вегетации корневой системы, нужно оттянуть срок промерзания почвы и тем самым дать молодым корешкам возможность дозреть. Для этого почву вокруг вновь посаженных растений на ширину расположения их корней покрывают теплоизоляционным материалом — навозом, перегноем, листвой, торфом.
