У кларкии изящной, или ноготковой, цветки расположены в пазухах листьев, цветение сопровождается отрастанием побега и закладкой все новых и новых цветочных почек. Центральный побег доминирует над боковыми и сильно удлиняется, на его конце цветение продолжается, а у основания семена уже созрели.

Достигший в длину 40-50 см центральный побег, где семян больше, чем цветов, можно обрезать, оставив созревать 5-10 коробочек. Так мы обеспечим себя семенами на следующий год и продлим цветение за счет закладки боковых побегов.
