После каждой срезки щавель поливают или подкармливают раствором коровяка (1:5).

Прекращают срезку за 25 суток до окончания вегетации.

На зиму листья не срезают, растения подокучивают и мульчируют торфом или компостом (3 кг на 1 м2).

В засушливые годы без полива у щавеля быстро образуются цветоносные побеги в ущерб урожаю листьев.
