В начале августа заготовляется достаточное количество чистого речного песка. На каждый четверик песка прибавляют 1 фунт поваренной соли (соль растворяют в воде, которой и поливают песок; песок тщательно перемешивается и просушивается). В конце августа приготовляются из хорошей огородной земли гряды для тюльпанов и гиацинтов.
На грядах проводятся борозды глубиной в 2,5-3 вершка, которые и наполняются песком, а в песок сажаются луковицы, засыпая их совершенно. Поверх песка насыпается еще слой огородной земли в 1 вершок толщины. При наступлении морозов гряды покрывают перепревшим навозом или корой из парников вершка па 4; весною эта покрышка осторожно снимается.
