Плоскосемянник (принсепия китайская) — растение редкое и в дикой природе (он внесен в Красную книгу России), и в культуре. По мнению некоторых ученых, он является предком-родоначальником всех культурных косточковых семейства розоцветных, но как плодовое растение свою роль он сегодня практически утратил и выращивается главным образом как декоративное растение. А зря — плоскосемянник обладает большим количеством достоинств, которых очень не хватает современным плодовым культурам.
Биологические особенности
Плоскосемянник — куст до 2 м высотой с хорошо развитой корневой системой и оригинальным строением кроны.
Ветви у него колючие, очень длинные, тонкие и выглядят почти как лианы, легко цепляясь за ветви и стволы соседних деревьев. Листья появляются в апреле (раньше цветков). В Московской области и центральных регионах РФ он зацветает в начале мая, на Урале — в конце мая. Цветки мелкие, пазушные, желтые, часто собраны в малоцветковые кисти до 4 шт.
Цветение длится около двух недель. Плоды внешне очень похожи на таковые у вишни и могут достигать 2 см в диаметре, с той разницей, что косточка внутри плода намного крупнее (это является едва ли не единственным недостатком плоскосемянника как плодовой культуры) и имеет характерную овально-уплощенную форму, за которую плоскосемянник и получил свое название. Мякоть покрывает косточку сравнительно тонким слоем, она очень сочная и кисло-сладкая. Созревают плоды в среднем в конце июля.
Плоскосемянник самобесплоден, чтобы получить урожай, надо иметь на участке не менее двух кустов.
Прочие его биологические особенности можно было бы с чистой совестью перенести в другую часть главы, посвященную его достоинствам как культуры. Плоскосемянник — на удивление неприхотливое растение, почти не требующее ухода, он одновременно и очень зимостоек, и засухоустойчив и практически не поражается вредителями и болезнями, в том числе и главными врагами обычных вишен — коккомикозом и монилиозом.
Ценность культуры
Плоды плоскосемянника довольно вкусны и могут использоваться как в свежем, так и в переработанном (варенье, джем, желе, повидло, напитки и т.п.) виде, как и плоды вишен, с которыми они очень сходны по химическому составу, с той лишь разницей, что витамина С в них содержится в 3 раза больше, чем у вишен, а Р-активных соединений — в 2 раза больше.
Благодаря строению корневой системы плоскосемянник можно выращивать на довольно крутых склонах и тем самым укреплять их.
Плоскосемянник очень декоративен, легко переносит обрезку и пересадку, и из него получаются очень красивые живые изгороди.
Сорта
Как таковые почти отсутствуют (есть садовые формы).
Выбор места
Единственное требование плоскосемянника к почвам — достаточная плодородность.
Плоскосемянник теневынослив, но в хорошо освещенных местах растет быстрее и дает лучший урожай.
Размножение
Размножать плоскосемянник можно семенным способом, отводками и зелеными черенками. Семена сеются в от-крытый грунт осенью или весной, в первом случае сразу, во втором — после 4-месячной стратификации.
Размеры посадочной ямы и схема посадки
Разработанных схем нет, главное, чтобы между растениями расстояние было не менее 1м.
Обрезка, формирование кроны
Четких схем нет, с помощью обрезки кусту можно при-дать почти любую форму (обрезку переносит хорошо). Единственной обязательной разновидностью обрезки является санитарная (оздоравливающая) — больные и поврежденные побеги надо удалять ежегодно.
Поливы
В случае длительного отсутствия атмосферных осадков.
Подкормки
В случае появления симптомов дефицита того или иного питательного элемента.
Прочий уход
Весной и осенью почву вокруг куста надо глубоко рыхлить. Чего опасаться, от чего защищать Вредителями и болезнями почти не поражается.
