Использование тмина
Тмин содержит до 6 процентов эфирного масла и до 22 процентов — жирного. В состав растения входят белковые, дубильные вещества. Плоды тмина и другие его части имеют богатый химический состав. Он является пряновкусовым и эфиромасличным растением.

Тмин используют в хлебопекарной промышленности. Именно он придает «Бородинскому » и «Хуторскому» хлебу такой неповторимый вкус и аромат. Наши предки использовали его для приготовления сыров, творогов. Хорош он для засолки огурцов, а квашеная капуста с тмином вообще объеденье! В Прибалтике любят отварной картофель с тмином.

Тминное масло используется в ликероводочной промышленности. Листья тмина (в сушеном и свежем виде), корнеплод можно класть в любое блюдо. Это растение является лекарственным. Оно помогает при желудочно-кишечных заболеваниях (диспепсия, атония, кишечные колики и др.). Эффект наступает, даже если просто пожевать щепотку семян.

Тмин выращивают как отдельную культуру и как уплотнитель. Хорошо размножается самосевом. Перед посевом семена замачивают на 3 дня. Всходы появляются через 7-10 дней, а если семена сухие, то через 20-25 дней. Уход обычный: рыхление, удаление сорняков и вредителей.

Цветет тмин на второй год после посадки. Семена собирают по мере созревания, когда побуреет около половины плодов. Их срезают и сразу помещают в матерчатый мешочек, иначе они быстро осыплются.
