В засушливый период необходим полив. Морозостоек, зимует без укрытия. Разрастаясь в мощные куртины, долго живет без пересадки.
Размножают мордовник семенами, вызревающими иногда только на следующий год после цветения, делением кустов и черенками. Семена высевают в открытый грунт с апреля по июль. Черенкуют весенние побеги, когда они достигнут в высоту 6-7 см, укореняют в смеси песка и торфа или перлита. Кусты делят рано весной.
Мордовник высаживают одиночно или цэуппами. В посадках хорошо сочетается с гипсофилой, посконником, синеголовником, тысячелистником.
