Мордовник обыкновенный

Стебель прямой, жесткий, ребристый, высотой до 150 см, иногда опушенный. Листья перистораздельные, снизу бело-войлочные. Цветки мелкие, голубые или синеватые, собраны в шаровидные либо продолговатые головчатые соцветии диаметром 3-5 см. Листочки обертки без железистых волосков. Цветет с июня до конца июля.

Часто выращивают и другие виды: мордовник Гмелина высотой до 150 см, соцветия крупные, диаметром до 7 см, цветки синие, цветет в июле-августе; мордовник приземистый высотой до 50 см, соцветия диаметром до 6 см, светло-голубые, цветет в августе- сентябре.

Мордовник светолюбив, хотя хорошо развивается и в полутени. К почвам нетребователен, но предпочитает рыхлые, плодородные, нейтральные, хорошо дренированные, не выносит застоя воды. Отзывчив на подкормки комплексным минеральным удобрением.

В засушливый период необходим полив. Морозостоек, зимует без укрытия. Разрастаясь в мощные куртины, долго живет без пересадки.

Размножают мордовник семенами, вызревающими иногда только на следующий год после цветения, делением кустов и черенками. Семена высевают в открытый грунт с апреля по июль. Черенкуют весенние побеги, когда они достигнут в высоту 6-7 см, укореняют в смеси песка и торфа или перлита. Кусты делят рано весной.

Мордовник высаживают одиночно или цэуппами. В посадках хорошо сочетается с гипсофилой, посконником, синеголовником, тысячелистником.
