Сорт Глория Деи — один из шедевров мировой коллекции садовых роз — создан во Франции в 1935 году. В память о своей матери селекционер Фрэнсис Мейян назвал новый сорт Мадам А. Мейян (M-me A. Meilland).
Во время Второй мировой войны, чтобы спасти сорт, черенки отправили в разные страны, где розу активно размножали. В день падения Берлина в честь наступившего мира в США этот сорт официально зарегистрировали под другим именем — Пис (Peace), что в переводе с английского и означает мир.
В Германии сорт назвали третьим именем — Глория Деи (Gloria Dei). Под ним он известен и в России. В Италии эта роза приобрела четвертое имя — Джойя (Gioia), что в переводе с языка Петрарки означает радость, восторг, драгоценность.
Эта роза необычайно красива. Кусты мощные, высотой до 1,5 м, широкие, с прочными, прямыми побегами. Листья темно-зеленые, блестящие. Молодые листочки и побеги красноватые. Цветки золотисто-желтые с розовой размытой каймой по краям лепестков, очень крупные (диаметром до 15 см), махровые (40-70 лепестков), слегка душистые.
Цветет обильно и длительно. Зимостойкость достаточно высокая. На конкурсах и выставках она отмечена многочисленными наградами. Этот цветок часто называют розой века.
