Чаще всего батун культивируют на огородах как однолетник. При этом в пищу используется все растение, от ложного стебля до зеленого пера. Татарка устойчива к заморозкам, высаженные осенью экземпляры начинают расти непосредственно после снеготаяния. Прорастание семян возможно, когда почва прогреется до 3° С выше нуля. Тем не менее для формирования полноценных растений требуется температура около 25° С, иначе листья становятся тонкими, жесткими и неприятными на вкус.
Лук-батун не требователен к механической структуре грунта. Единственным необходимым условием является достаточная степень аэрации. В качестве растений-предшественников рекомендуется выращивать огурцы, ранние разновидности картофеля, фасоль, горох или люцерну. Осенью следует перекопать будущие гряды и при необходимости внести органические и минеральные подкормки.
Семена высевают осенью или весной. Можно произвести дополнительную посадку летом, чтобы получить за один сезон вегетации два полноценных урожая. Весной можно сажать татарку сразу же после размягчения верхнего слоя почвы, причем семена разбрасывают по рядам, не оставляя промежутков. Густые всходы молодых растений образуют сочное зеленое перо высокого качества. Глубина заделки семян составляет око-л о 3 см, расстояние между рядами — примерно 30 см.
Для того чтобы получить раннюю витаминную зелень, целесообразно высаживать лук-батун поздней осенью (в середине или конце ноября). Можно также оставлять на грядке неубранные летние экземпляры — весной они быстро пойдут в рост. Чтобы ускорить развитие растений, на грядах устанавливают переносные парнички или прикрывают всходы двойной полиэтиленовой пленкой. Для сохранения высокого качества пера необходимо следить за посадками и не допускать образования стрелок.
Перед высадкой семян татарки в открытый грунт рекомендуется удобрить почву листовым перегноем, а также минеральными комплексными смесями. После внесения указанных средств землю следует еще раз перекопать и разбороновать. Для получения сочного вкусного пера лук-батун поливают обильно и часто. Если есть возможность, желательно устроить на огороде постоянное орошение.
Первую уборку урожая татарки можно провести поздней весной, после того, как зеленые листья достигнут около 25 см в длину. В дальнейшем срезку пера выполняют каждые 3—4 недели, по мере его отрастания.
Перезревание лука приводит к образованию стрелок, при этом качество зелени заметно ухудшается.
