Выращивание щавеля
Популярное зеленное растение, акклиматизированное в России примерно в XIX столетии. В свежих листьях щавеля содержится очень много аскорбиновой кислоты, органические кислоты (в том числе щавелевая), минеральные соли, витамины группы В, РР и А. Полезное растение рекомендуется включать в пищевой рацион при заболеваниях желудочно-кишечного тракта, кровотечениях, дисфункции печени. Нежелательно употребление щавеля при патологиях мочеполовой системы.

С ботанической точки зрения щавель является травянистым многолетником, относящимся к семейству гречишных. Листовые пластинки могут быть копьевидными или почти ланцетными. Прикорневые листья собраны в пышную розетку. Данная культура хорошо переносит похолодание, может выдерживать кратковременные заморозки. Под укрытием щавель может даже перезимовать.

Прорастание семян начинается при температуре около 3° С выше нуля. Для экономии места растения можно высаживать в междурядьях, поскольку они нетребовательны к хорошему освещению.

Щавель хорошо растет и развивается только на плодородном субстрате, поэтому землю необходимо хорошо разрыхлить и внести в нее перегной, суперфосфат и калийную смесь. Посев семян можно начинать после оттаивания почвы или летом для получения молодой витаминной зелени. Прореживание всходов производят после разворачивания четвертого полноценного листа.

При озимом выращивании весной можно подкормить всходы аммиачной селитрой или комплексным минеральным составом. Щавель нуждается в регулярном обильном поливе, рыхлении грунта и выпалывании прорастающих сорняков. Для того чтобы листья не загрубевали, появляющиеся стебли-цветоносы следует сразу же отщипывать.
Сбор урожая проводят в течение всего лета по мере отрастания листьев, которые необходимо аккуратно срезать острым инструментом.
